w/ lipo charger and pack!
after about a week and a half of research and question asking I went with brushless/lipo over nitro or standard electric...I think it's going to be the best fit for me...
I should have it next week..can't wait!

Remove the back tires, put lock-tite RC/680 on threads and put the tires back on and you are ready to go!
This thing is so fast out of the box you can unscrew the wheel nuts when going from forward to reverse and back to forward! Ooops! There goes the wheel right past the car! Now you need axel pins too! I did it and so did everyone of my friends!
P.S. Save your money you are going to need to purchase a small RUBBER TIRE FACTORY! He, He!

Might as well order the RPM Rustler collection while your at it. I'd recomend aluminum front and rear bearing carriers, and AL castor blocks while your at it. Drop 2 or 3 teeth off the stock pinion for general bashing on 2S LiPo to help keep the temps down. And the TRX wheely bar won't hold up to jumping around an offroad track either. The Rustler is a blast, but it's speed makes it a little hard on parts. Guess I'll find out if I have the weak links out of mine when I race it May 4th.

now why is it that traxxas is known for its 'durability' and I see people always talking about replacement parts? =)
anyway, this whole experience has been nothing but trouble and I haven't even gotten to run the car yet..problem after problem after problem...

the trucks going 0-60 faster than a Fererri, trust me you are going to need spare parts, between rpm and traxxas oem parts you can buy enough spares for 5 excellent accidents for $20. get a rpm wide bumper 1st thing out of the box its going to save you big.. Ive folded 2 FLM chassis like Tacos

I understand that the RPM wide front bumper nice though they may be tend to act like a wing when you really get moving. I don't know i haven't had a chance to run my Stampede VXL, or for that matter my XL-5 due to a nerve problem plus its been raining so dang much!! Enough with the rain already Lord! Traxxasman

I'm in the same boat, man...
it's been nearly a month and I STILL haven't been able to run the thing....still waiting on my replacement Rx from traxxas, which they sent out TWO wednesdays ago...and I have a lipo pack and charger bundle from maxamps that I ordered last week on the way as well..hopefully I'll be getting that soon too...

The Traxxas trucks are durable, but think about what it is doing. The Rustler is a 10th scale truck. Jayjay called it too. A 1/10 scale truck doing 70mph is like me trying to break the sound barrier in my 94 Sonoma. Handling is going to get a little odd around 700mph and stuff is probably going to break if I hit something. My first couple of trips to the track, I broke parts on my Rusty. Yesterday, it survived 3 heats and a main. Took 3rd in the 10th scale class. First and second were both 4wd buggies. Hop ups to help this happen:
RPM
Front bumper, front A arms, rear A arms, front and rear shock towers.
TRX
Front and rear AL carriers, AL turnbuckles, AL pivot blocks, Rear big bore shocks, front Jato AL shocks
FLM
AL castor blocks
All those were breakage replacements
FLM Trany with 4deg rear toe for more forward bite/traction
ProLine tires (Blade front/holeshot rear)
RPM rims
MaxAmps batteries, I used a 3S 5k yesterday, but that was overkill, think I'll run 2S 6k next race.

I'd imagine that you had to use ALOT of throttle control using that 3S on the track huh? =)

Throttle control? What's that? I very rarely got to WOT on the long front straight, and it was wheely city when I did. Our track was set up to be split for 1/8th scale and 1/10th this year. The split cut off a series of 3' foot high jumps. 1 is a jump over a large gap to table, then a tripple, hairpin to a set of 3 large doubles. The idea was to make it so 1/10th and MT could save a few parts this year, but for some reason we only shortracked the Monsters. When I timed it right, the table to tripple was easy for the Rustler to clear. 2 of the three doubles where not to bad to hit, but I had to single/single the midldle of those. The 4wd buggies had to single all of that section, but they ate me alive through the turns. They could power through, I had to stay off the throttle. If I had a rear steer Rustler I guess I could power through the corners too, but it just doesn't want to turn when the front tires aren't on the dirt.

I don't know much about the categories of RC racing, but having 4WD and 2WD cars on the same race seems to be a little unfair..I didn't know they did it that way..and yeah, makes sense that they'd smoke you on the turns....

R/C Outlaws (my club) doesn't exactly follow the ROAR rules. We don't have limits on motors, fuel, or cell counts. Mixing 2 and 4wd was a bit of a stretch even for us. The guys with 4wd didn't really want to race the 2s. They didn't want to have that kind of advantage, but we all said bring it on. It wasn't that we thought we would beat them, we just wanted them to get to race to. Sure, there is a little prize money and braggin rights involved, but the big thing to me is for everybody to get to come out and have fun. Its a stretch, but everyone else could have broke, and my 5 year old could have taken the class win just by keeping his Bandit in one piece to the end of the main. If I hadn't made the mods I listed to my Rustler, I would have broke in the first heat. I've gotten to the point I don't like to bash with my 'race' cars and trucks so I don't break them before a race, but running the track with a group of similar cars is a blast. Winning is cool, but there is a lot more to it than that.

you can flip it upside down for highspeed runs and the wind hold the front down and stable..well more stable which isnt alot after 50mph, just a tip
