Hey guy/gals I recently upgraded from a tc 3 to a 4 and I wanna get the highest top speed outta it so what are your suggestions. I am be no means a pro but I wanna go fast and smoke my buddies new nitro rustler( that thing is fast, 2.5 in a rustler)
What should I use? Thanks

LRP Sphere TC spec and a 3.5 or 4.5 motor.. geared 72/32. with a 3s pack.

dude, do a mamba maxx with the 7700kv motor and a 4cell maxamps 6000mAh lipo. the mamba says it can only do a 3s but i got one in my el-8ight and i got a 4s in there with a hacker c50 maxx motor and that thng flies!

i had my tc3 doing about 65-70 with a novak gtb 4.5r and a 2s 6000mAh maxamps. it had a 29/75 gear ratio.

i recommend putting in the ntc3 diff assemblies (tan gears in color) if you want to go that fast.

keep us updated!

holy **** I just realized I have no idea what the hell either of you just said:confused:

Can it be said like I was a 3 year old?
What brand and or turn motor
what size gears
and what does it usually cost?

Oh ya and what is in the 3's and 4's mean? I didn't even know I didn't knowthis much:eek:

I do appreciate the replys!

ok mamba and a 7700kv motor its like a turbo charged toyota supra running nitrous, so in other words really really stupid fast (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNKU2&P=ML)

as for the size of the gears run a 29-30 tooh pinion with a 75-78 tooth spur

the 3's and 4's mean what version touring car (tc) it is.

Hehe as far as I can tell Josh is recommending a brushless setup called the Mamba Maxx 7700kv Motor/ESC. The initial costs of these combos can be pricey when compared to brushed systems, (I honestly don't know the best price, mamba has them on their site at $250, but I'm sure you can find them a little cheaper elsewhere) but once you try a brushless system, you will never want to go back! Not to mention the serious reduction of maintenance needed and greatly increased power and effiiciency.

As far as the 3s and 4s, he's talking about the number of cells that are in Series in a lipo (Lithium Polymer) battery pack. 3s=3 cells in Series, etc etc. and of course the 6000mah is the amount of stored electrical energy in the packs.

I'm impressed about hearing of a 4s pack being used in a 7700, I figure with the gearing used and that much current would make a burnt mamba. But hey, if it works, don't fix it right??

Also those lipo packs can be pricey too, but again from my own personal experience, they are quite worth it, you get some amazing umph from those packs. Aside from the TC5 I'm currently building I also have a Rustler VXL Brushless and use an 11.1V 3s 8000mah pack in it. With the stock gearing of 23/86 I easily get near the 60 mph mark but can't stay too long cuz as soon as I reach full throttle the front end just wants to go up, no matter how slow I try to accelerate!

Anyway, hope that helps a little, hehe.

ya its stupid fast with a 3 cell. i think that i might have posted this earlier but im not sure. mamba's are only rated to a 3 cell but they will handle a 4 cell no problem. as for a 5 cell you will burn the living **** out of the speed control.

when i was down at i hobby they had a power wheels looking truck that we would get for our kids or something at walmart, they had 2 of these mamba 7700kv's in there with a 12v lead acid battery (the entire setup weighed about a 100lbs.) with a 200lbs man in there the thing still cruised around at 18mph!

Hah right on man, I personally picked up a MM6900 for my TC5, they had just got it in at my LHS and didn't expect it to sit on the shelf too long so I snagged it. Also got a 3s 8000 Maxamps on the way to me so I can't wait for spring to get here! hehe.

i hate to say it but you mite want to start stocking up on parts now for that one! lol.

lol i know, it's gonna be a monster i can tell. When I ordered I figure I just run the 8000 in my VXL rusty, now that i know 3s is safe, i may just be stupid enough to try it lol.

I run the LRP 4.5 with the 2s 4000 packs in my TC5, and believe me... one tap of the wall at my local track and it generally does mean more parts are needed. The car is crazy fast down the straight.. I usually run the entire race at 1/4 trigger.. then get brave and go about 1/2 trigger down the straights.. Still haven't found a smooth Loooooong stretch of carpet to get it up to full speed! and I'm geared 19/87 just to keep it slow!!!

Wow, parts break that easy huh? I must have been spoiled by my rustler then, even though it's also had a lot of breaks, its usually from pretty hard hits. Oh well, breaking it and putting it back together is part of the hobby right? hehe

rofl that is hilarious, what in the world possessed em to do that to a power wheels? Sounds like they're gettin too much free time on their hands!

idk but its freaking sweet tho. they must not have too much time on their hands they have a few new speedcontrols coming out, they inked a deal with steve neu for the neu line of motors.

I've been gon a few days and I just had a chance to read though here. Thanks alot for the setup help and for the clarification on the tech talk. I have a checkpoint motor, but I don't know which one, can you guys tell me how to find out, looks like a standard size can with timing marks and it black.

I had my bro charge up my battery packs and we took it out and man is this thing fast, I'm going to have to start counting teeth to see how it is geared. I coiuld get a about 1/2 throttle and then any more than that it would just loop out and I'd lose it. Then it just stoppd working altogethet. I have steering and voltage to the ECS but no voltage out of the ESC and of course no motor response, Sounds like I need a new ESC right?

Thanks again to all for the input, I can tell now this forum will grow to be one of the best:)

By the way is there a classified section on the site?? I didn't see one yet.

Hey man, awesome stuff about the carnage with the car, if you can't get any throttle out of it anymore and you've tried resetting the ESC then I'd check for melted wires or a burnt smell coming from the ESC. If nothing works still then yea, I'd say the ESC went poof. As far as what motor it is I couldn't really tell ya, I havent worked with brushed motors in so long that I kinda fell outta the loop on em. It's gotta be either a 540 or 550 can, no idea on the turns though.

And as for classifieds, no clue either, I reckon they might put one in eventually, but then again, they might just want this to be a support place too, who knows.

I went down to the Cleveland Indoor Nats yesterday, and after speaking to a few of the associated drivers , and looking at the cars while on the tech tables, I noticed a few of them running a newer type caster block, and one even had aluminum, which he said was corrally made for the tc5. Apparently Associated is coming out with a stiffer/more durable material for the casters and hubs.. will check more into this when able.

Oooo, awesome, aluminum will work, especially down there on the casterblocks and bearing carriers where I don't want a lot of flex, I'd leave that up to the springs and shocks. Cool, keep us posted, always on the look out for stronger stuff.
