I have just put a 3905 emaxx tranny in a revo geared 64/12 and tried a used GTB 4.5 novak I got off ebay. and I only run about three mins and it cliches and then stops... no forward movement but the sterring still works....Is this thermal sut down... I did try this motor set up on one of my emaxx's geared 12/72 and did the same thing. I think it is the ecs because I was useing two differnt radio systems. It seems like the min I get past 1/2 throtle is when it starts messiing up. The motor is no even warm the ecs maybe room temp..but the wires to the motor....are what I would call hot. there is conectors between the motor and ecs. Why would these wires be hot.

Any thoughts would help.
Thanks

I play with batteries a bit tonight and looks like I can't run my lipo's with this set up. with lipo hooked up the wires from the ecs to motor got soo hot I couldn't hold them.. this affter two min playing in the house. I put a 3600 venom in and took it to the garage and played a bit with full throtle and breaks on and off for about five mins non stop and the motor wires where not hot. and it didn't cut out once.

I will try it at track tommorow and see if it's the lipo... If I can't run lipo then this realy s@@ks.. it's realy dead with the venoms..

Oh! I did change the gears to 12/70 before playing tonight..thinking I may be over geared.... but why wouldn't the motor or ecs get hot befor the wires.

Ross,
Make some time and call Novak. They have a great Tech crew on staff and I'm sure they will walk you through your troubles.
I just want to point something out if your not aware ? The GTB 4.5 is for 1/10 scale touring cars, mabe the weight of the maxx is a bit much for it ?
Check out the attached a link .

Yes I wondered if these were big enough for the E-Revo.. I is only about 7.5-8 lbs..But I'm sure I read two of three posts some where and they were useing this motor combo, I'm sure two of them were revos and one I think was a gorrila maxx of some sort. I will have to try and find them posts....
In the instructions it does show it can be used ona 1/10 scale off road 4wd.
Wouldn't they weigh close to 7-8 lbs?

This set up did work better in the EMAXX with the older tranny in first gear it would just about wheely with 12/72 gearing... but the new 3905maxx tranny in the revo with 12/70 gearing barely lifts the front suspension let-alone wheely..

I did a very close inspection of ecs last night and did find very light mist of moisture in one corner of ecs. so I opened it up and used the wifes hair dryer on it. maybe thats why it seemed better today.

I did play a bit today and with poor batteris and it worked way better but proformance realy bites. I will try the lipos again tomorrow.

I was hoping this would work because running one battery Weight wise is better than the HV system running two. I think the HV system Is way over powered.

A 1/10 4wd is roughly half the weight of a Maxx ? At the very least 2-3 pounds lighter.

I did get to try out the E-Revo today at the BMX track. I did get other 4.5 GTB set up last night and switched them This one has no conectors between the motor and ecs...It worked awsome with the Track power lipo. But the lipo was warm after 12-15 mins of playing, however the ecs and motor were just warm to touch.

When the wires get hot on the other 4.5 system..could this be from resistance form the conectors,or maybe too small of wire?

Why would the lipo get warm today? this scares me more than anything,I don't want to cook a lipo. I asume the 4.5 draws more amps than the track power can supply. If this is the case I wonder what a Max Amps lipo would do in this thing.

Other than the above concerns this thing ROCKS!!! it dances like crazy in the air..Not even in the same class as the E_Maxx. It turns like it's on rails. It feels way lighter to drive, This E-Revo is more fun than my HV maxx even though it's noticably slower..:D:D....BUT not for long:eek:
I may just have to build one for myself.

First thing though is to put the maxx on a diet, get rid of all the aluminum, and maybe the two speed stuff and maybe add a rear wing. then maybe just a 3cell lipo.

Glad your happy with the Revo and the that another GTB 4.5 is working for you. You said the other GTB was purchased used off of Ebay ? You may consider sending it in to Novak for a Tech Inspection ? Just don't tell them you purchased it used from Ebay and that you lost your receit and I'm sure they shouldn't have a problem ?
You starting to kindle a fire in me to build a Revo, Dam you ! ;-)

I think I will try and replace the wires from the ecs to the motor(remove the conectors) on the other 4.5 GTB and see if that helps with the problem.
If not then it will go back to novak.

I realy don't expect the 4.5 to last that long,I will recoment to this guy to keep the gears fairly high ratio and that should help a bit in the long run, he hasn't realy had anything that is fast any ways. this will be good for him....Atleast till I do one with the HV system lol.

I dont know if keeping the gear ratio high is going to help, heat issues may arise ?
